Juvenile and Domestic Relations and Family Law Lawyer

Sarah Nelson grew up in a military family but spent most of her childhood in Hampton Roads. Because of her strong ties to the area, Sarah completed her undergraduate degree at Old Dominion University in Norfolk. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and a Bachelor of Science in Sociology. From Old Dominion, Sarah went to law school at Regent University in Virginia Beach, Virginia and graduated with her Juris Doctor.

Before graduating from law school, Sarah was an active student serving on the Regent Law Review, the Trial Advocacy Board, and Honor Counsel. As a student, Sarah fought vigorously for the opportunity to allow certified facility dogs to assist child-victims in court. In 2018, Virginia codified the use of facility dogs (see Va. Code § 18.2-67.9:1). Since its enactment, Sarah has presented her research at conferences to explain how attorneys and judges may best utilize this tool in practice.

Sarah is certified as a guardian ad litem and has a deep love for ensuring children’s wishes are well represented.

Sarah has a firm belief in community involvement. She is a current member of the James Kent Inn of Court and an alumna of Alpha Xi Delta, which supports the philanthropy Autism Speaks, and Phi Alpha Delta. Sarah currently serves on the Scholarship Committee for Hampton Roads Pride. Additionally, Sarah volunteers to coach for the Norfolk Public School Mock Trial Program and coaches youth soccer for Chesapeake United Soccer Club.
